1. Illinois schools secure state funds to hire teachers (qctimes.com) — Rockford Public Schools will receive about $426,000 in new state Teacher Vacancy Grant funding, the largest award in the broader Rockford region, to help recruit and keep teachers. The money, part of a $15 million statewide effort, can support signing bonuses, retention incentives, tuition help, and mentoring as districts work to reduce long-standing staffing shortages.

2. The latest on Rockford road projects on 11th, Auburn and Madison (rrstar.com) — If you drive in Rockford, expect lane closures, detours and slower traffic on key stretches of 11th, Auburn and Madison as the city continues major utility and road upgrades. Businesses along these corridors remain open, but officials urge drivers to slow down, watch for changing patterns, and consider alternate routes while sidewalk, drainage and curb work continues.

3. Rockford considers Spaces to Places program to support small businesses (mystateline.com) — Rockford officials are weighing a new "Spaces to Places" program that would reimburse security deposits and cover half of participating small businesses' rent for up to a year, using $300,000 in casino revenue. Supporters say it could cut startup costs and fill empty storefronts, while some aldermen argue it unfairly subsidizes landlords, delaying a final City Council vote.

4. Where Do You Go When Rain Wrecks The Plan? 7 Illinois Museums Built For Kids (takingthekids.com) — Rockford families looking to salvage a rainy day can head to Discovery Center Museum on North Main, where kids explore hands-on science exhibits, workshops, and an outdoor play area when skies clear. 5. Report: Small Midwest Metros Warm as Big Cities Cool Ahead of Fall (rismedia.com) — Rockford's housing market just claimed the No. 1 spot in Realtor.com's August "Hottest Housing Markets" report, after years of hovering in the top 20. The ranking reflects strong buyer demand and relatively affordable prices within commuting distance of Chicago and Madison, signaling continued interest from shoppers priced out of larger, more expensive metros.
