• A book documenting queer history in Rockford will be released this Pride Month (northernpublicradio.org) — Rockton gets a surprising spotlight in a new book tracing how a small, rural town became an early battleground for queer advocacy, including fights over a Gay-Straight Alliance in local schools. Author Andrew Mertzenich’s “Forest City Yester-Queer” focuses on Rockford-area LGBTQ+ history and will debut June 6 at Rockford’s Pride Parade, with wider local distribution later this month.
