$2.1M Heroin Bust Aided By Romeoville, Bolingbrook Cops: Sheriff

The gang suppression unit pulled over a suspicious vehicle near I-55 and the I-355 exit.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Will County Sheriff's Office said it has taken 21 kilos of heroin — worth an estimated $2.1 million — off the street with the help of Romeoville and Bolingbrook police. A man and woman from Chicago face charges after their vehicle was stopped near I-55 and the I-355 exit on Thursday, according to a release from Sheriff Mike Kelley.

"We are stopping these drug traffickers in their tracks," according to Kelley, who said the county Gang Suppression Unit came in contact with a suspicious vehicle Thursday and initiated a traffic stop.

Deputies spoke with driver Pedro Mirando, 46, of the 5900 block of Kenmore, and 31-year-old Maria Delgado of the 1500 block of Foster.

"While a check of Mirando’s history was being conducted, a narcotics dog did a search of the vehicle and positively indicated for drugs," police said in a news release. "Five kilos of heroin was located in the rear of the vehicle. "

While being interviewed by police, Delgado referenced having additional heroin at her home, police said. Delgado consented to deputies searching her residence, where gang suppression unit members seized an additional 16 kilos of heroin.
