2 Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Pursuit In Romeoville

Police said they were notified of the stolen car Tuesday via the automated license plate readers in the community.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Two people were taken into custody after officers pursued a stolen Jeep Cherokee on Tuesday night, according to Romeoville Police.

Police said that a Romeoville officer was notified at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday via the automated license plate reader system that a stolen car was traveling on 135th Street, approaching Weber Road. The officer found the stolen Jeep Cherokee at the intersection, and confirmed it was reported stolen from Calumet City, police said.

The officer tried to stop the car, but the offender accelerated southbound on Weber Road, police said. A short pursuit began, and the car made a U-turn south of Airport Road, and was now on Weber Road.

North of the intersection of Airport Road, the car struck another northbound vehicle and came to a stop, according to police. The two people in the offending vehicle, and one person in the victim's vehicle, were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the offending vehicle remains in the hospital for evaluation with charges pending, police said. A 15-year-old passenger also has charges pending review of the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.
