2-Year-Old Girl Expected to Survive After Lawnmower Injury

The toddler was extricated from the lawnmower and airlifted to a trauma center.

A toddler was injured after coming in contact with a lawnmower, according to a release from the Plainfield Fire Protection District.

At 2:08 p.m., the PFPD received a 911 call for a lawnmower accident that involved an injury to a 2-year-old girl. The child had to be extricated from the lawnmower and was airlifted to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, according to The Herald-News.

Will County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Tom Budde told The Herald-News that the 2-year-old girl’s great-grandmother was mowing the lawn at around 2 p.m. in the 2500 block of Plum Street when she backed up the riding mower and heard a “horrible scream.”

Despite efforts from the girl’s mother and the great-grandmother, they were unable to move the mower off the girl until Plainfield firefighters arrived.

The girl suffered a severe laceration to her upper leg, but is expected to survive.

Police said there are no indications of foul play.

The Will County Sheriff’s Department and the Crest Hill Police Department provided assistance to the PFPD.
