Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes...

As we go through changes in our lives, where do we find the unchanging things that keep us grounded; peace in the midst of chaos; calm in the midst of the storms of life?

This school year brought about big changes in our family and wouldn't you know that when I turned on the radio today I heard the perfect song, "Changes," by David Bowie.

"Strange fascination, fascinating me
Changes are taking the pace I'm going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Oh, look out you rock 'n rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Pretty soon you're gonna get a little older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time"

Our oldest son started college today — in New York. Letting go when we said "so long" last week was SO hard. For 18 years, he's been a part of our close-knit little family. And so, the "changes" begin.

Our middle child, our daughter, is developing into quite the vibrant, creative young woman we somehow knew she would be and, soon, we'll be sending her out of the nest ..."changes" continue.

Our youngest son started middle school this year, a place of daily challenges and almost daily "changes."

Change is not always easy for us humans. We kind of like the status quo. Doing things differently usually means we have to change and let's face it, few of us want to do that.

In the midst of changes in our family, our jobs, our community, and our world, we who are believers have a Savior who never changes. From Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

He is our Solid Rock, our foundation. When everything around us is in chaos, we can find peace and calm in Him.

When our lives seem to be changing faster than we care to think about, when we're getting older and time changes us, we can take hope in the unchanging love of God found in Jesus Christ.

For me, sometimes that's the only hope I can really hold onto in any given moment. It's the one thing that has never left me, never let me down, and always keeps me centered and focused.

So, as you go through "ch-ch-ch-ch-changes" in your life, where do you find your calm, your peace, your centeredness, your solid ground?
