Dr. Seuss - A Prayer
After a visit to a Dr. Seuss exhibit, I'm reminded of what's importan ... to kids and all of us.

My two younger children and I had the pleasure of exploring a Dr. Seuss exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry here in Chicago today. I've always been a great fan of Dr. Seuss. I have many cherished memories of Steve and I reading his books to our kids, Steve using funny voices and me just trying to keep the rhymes.
As we went through the exhibit, I was so impressed by his talent, the meticulous way he crafted his art, and his passion for making the world a more creative, tolerant place for kids and adults alike.
But, my favorite part of the exhibit was the "Secret Garden." It contained artwork that Dr. Seuss drew after midnight, long after the illustrations he drew for his well-known children's books. These secret works were only able to be shared, per his instruction, after his death.
Not surprisingly, one of my favorites is called, "A Prayer for a Child." What drew me to the picture as much as the actual visual art, are his words:
From here on earth,
From my small place
I ask of You
Way out in space:
Please tell all men
In every land
What You and I
Both understand . . .
Please tell all men
That Peace is Good.
That’s all
That need be understood
In every world
In Your great sky.

(We understand.
Both You and I.)
Isn't that lovely? What a wonderful prayer for this new year. I shall try to remember it and pray it often. How about you?
