Thomas the Best Choice, Part 3
More reasons to support Juan Thomas for the 11th Congressional District
I’ve written a couple of blog entries stating why I support Juan Thomas for the 11th Congressional District in the Democratic primary. Today, I thought that instead of having more information coming from me, I would instead quote Mr. Thomas as he has spoken and written on the various issues we face as voters.
If we start with one of the most recent issues, he said the following in response to the Republican attack against women: He said, “I want to empower the women of the 11th Congressional District of Illinois. The inappropriate words directed towards Sarah Fluke are only a warning sign of what is to come for women's rights issues. We need advocates for women in the district. I am the kind of leader who protects the rights of the people. With your support, we will lead the charge for change in Washington.”
His position is refreshing, especially in view of how widespread this right wing attack against women is. Across the country, there have been more than 1000 bills introduced to limit women’s reproductive rights or to receive proper healthcare. I don’t know why the “right” fears women, but they certainly seem dedicated to controlling them.

Juan Thomas has pledged to support and empower women, and that should attract the interest of all women. On another important issue, jobs, he said, “I support the 'Restore The American Dream For The 99 Percent Act.'
"The act will create over 5 million jobs over the next two years and reduce the budget deficit by over $2 trillion over the next ten years. The act will require that materials for government contracts be manufactured in the U.S. The act will ensure that our veterans are not discriminated against in the workplace for time spent receiving treatment for injuries. Around $50 billion in investments in infrastructure and transportation will fix our crumbling roads, bridges, rail lines, sewer systems, upgrade power lines, and mass transit systems. The act supports fairness in taxation, ending unnecessary defense spending, and protects Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security."

According CNN, we’ve had growth in jobs since 2008, so it seems pretty clear that things are moving in the right direction, even though that movement may be slower that we might want.
While the Republicans complain that the White House isn’t doing enough to promote jobs, they continue to block a major bill that would put thousands of construction workers back to work repairing our rapidly decaying bridges and highways.
This makes me wonder just how “pro-job” Republicans really are. Additionally, what we do not need is a return to the lack of regulation and oversight that allowed the financial crisis to develop in the first place, as the Republicans are strongly advocating. We cannot allow the banks or any other business to again be in a position to hurt the general public as it has in the past. If you are looking for a representative who has YOUR best interests at heart and who wants this to be country for everyone, not just the wealthy, then Juan Thomas is your man.
