This week we caught up with Lourdes “Lou” Aguirre, owner of , 225 W. Romeo Road, Romeoville, to learn more about the history of the business and what services it plans to offer in the future.

I  have been a cosmetologist for 34 years and have been a salon business owner for the past 22 years

2. What made you want to open your own place?

I worked for Lola's Beauty Salon from 1977 to 1989. In 1989, I became the owner and renamed the salon Lou's Styling Place. I then purchased Lola's home, which was commercially zoned, and opened the current Lou's Styling Place in 1999. Although [the Romeo Road business] appears like a home, it is all salon business and not my home.

3.  What services do you offer?

We are full-service salon offering haircuts, color, perms and special occasion looks for women, men, teens and children. We also offer wonderful lines of retail, including professional hair products (Redken, Paul Mitchell, Phyto-Organics, Crew), professional makeup, Lou's Cosmetics and Premiere Collection Skin Care Systems. And soon we will be adding nail services to the salon.

4. How are you different from other local salons?

We are different because we do not mass produce our work. We strive very hard to continue our education in all aspects of our field, in order to provide personalization and custom looks for our clients. It does not matter if you are a young child, teen or career professional, we will give everyone the same respect.

As a business owner, I have always appreciated my staff for their talent and desire to be with us for a long time!

5. What plans do you have for the salon/business in the future?

We hope to expand our  staff to better provide for our clients. Makeup and skin care are very exciting, and we are keeping with the trends in those markets to better serve our clients.
