District 202 School Board Member Resigns; Officials Look to Fill Vacancy

Anyone interested in serving on the board should apply by Jan. 10, 2015.

Officials are seeking to fill the vacancy after Plainfield School District 202 Board of Education member William Dargan Jr. resigned, effective Tuesday.

Dargan stepped down to take a new job in Florida, the district said in a press release Wednesday.

The board is now accepting applications for candidates to serve the rest of Dargan’s term, which ends in April 2017. The deadline to apply is Jan. 10, 2015.

“Mr. Dargan is a good man and a valued member of the Board of Education,” board president Roger Bonuchi said. “We are sorry to see him leave us and thank him for his service and dedication to our students, staff and families.”

To be eligible to serve on the board, candidates must be:

  • A U.S. citizen
  • A resident of Illinois and the school district for at least one year preceding election
  • At least 18 years old
  • A registered voter

Interested District 202 residents should email Charlotte Ward at cward@psd202.org.

Emails must include applicants’ qualifications, and statements explaining their interest in becoming a board of education member and why they would be an asset or valuable member of the District 202 Board of Education.

The board of education will review all applications and announce the new Board member no later than Jan. 31, 2015, as required by law.
