End The Winter Hibernation With A Forest Outing
There are tons of opportunities in the area to get out there and see some gorgeous nature.

From Will County Forest Preserve: Spring is in the air, and the Forest Preserve District is ready to help you get moving with these hibernation-ending programs:
ROMEOVILLE – “Living History Demonstrations,” noon-3 p.m. Sundays, April 8 and May 6, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Isle a la Cache Museum. Members of the museum’s volunteer brigade portray life during the French fur trade era. April’s theme is Weapons of the 18th Century; May’s theme is Historic Fire-Starting. Registration is not required for this free, all-ages program.
CHANNAHON – “Little Explorers,” 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays April 11 and June 6, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Four Rivers Environmental Education Center. Experience indoor and outdoor hands-on activities. April’s theme is Bird Eggs; June’s theme is Art in Nature. The free program is for ages 5 and younger. BEECHER – “Nature Play Days,” 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, April 11, May 9 and June 6, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Plum Creek Nature Center. Experience indoor and outdoor hands-on activities. The free program is for ages 3-5. Registration is not required.
CHANNAHON – “Hikin’ with Your Hound,” 5-6 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Hammel Woods – Route 59 Access. Enjoy an evening walk with a naturalist and your pup. The free program is for all ages. Register by Wednesday, April 11, at ReconnectWithNature.org or by calling 815-722-9470.

CUSTER TOWNSHIP – “Sands Bird Hike,” 8-10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Kankakee Sands Preserve. Take a hike through the preserve with an interpretive naturalist and other like-minded birders. The free program is for ages 18 and older. ROMEOVILLE – “Nature Sensory Hike,” 1-2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Isle a la Cache Museum. Explore the preserve through touch, smell, sight and sound. BEECHER – “Salamander Safari,” 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Plum Creek Nature Center. Meet a few of the nature center’s live creatures, then join a naturalist for a guided off-trail experience searching for salamanders , frogs, toads and more. The free program is for all ages. BEECHER – “Worm Bin Workshop,” 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Plum Creek Nature Center. Learn how to assemble a worm bin composter. A 10-gallon storage container will be provided. The program is for ages 10 and older and costs $3 per person. Register at ReconnectWithNature.org by Wednesday, April 11, or call 708-946-2216.
MONEE – Three sessions of “Fishing for Trash” will be offered at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Monee Reservoir from 6 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday, April 17-Sunday, April 22; and 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15-Sunday, May 20, and Tuesday, June 5-Sunday, June 10. Pick up a trash bag and gloves at the concessions stand and fill it with trash. Bring it back to the window and receive a free gift. Registration is not required for this free, all-ages program.
MONEE/BEECHER – “Recycle Your Bicycle” Tuesday, April 17-Sunday, April 29, at two locations: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Monee Reservoir and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Plum Creek Nature Center. Donate bikes in any condition – new or beyond repair – and the Forest Preserve District of Will County will give them to local recycling nonprofits that refurbish them for people in need of a mode of transportation locally, regionally and globally. Registration is not required.
