Expect Gunshots Thursday In Romeoville During VFW Funeral

Police were looking to reassure residents who might be alarmed to hear the volley of gunfire.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Village of Romeoville and police issued an advisory warning residents to expect to hear gunfire in the village on Thursday evening, but there's no need for panic. The gunshots will be part of a salute to a local veteran who recently passed away.

"A funeral is currently being held at Anderson Funeral Home on Townhall Drive," according to the police alert. "To honor the deceased who was a VFW member, the VFW will be doing a gun salute between 6-7:00 p.m."

The alert continued, "They are shooting 9 blank shots, no live shots will be done. There is no threat to the public. This advisory is being sent out in the event the shots are heard in the nearby area."
