Gun Buy-Back Program Offered By Romeoville PD On April 29

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Romeoville Police Department will offer a gun buy-back program as a safe way for residents to turn in unwanted weapons.

The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 29 at the Romeoville Police Department's west entrance, 1050 W. Romeo Road.

According to the department, people can turn in their weapons with no questions asked and without penalty. Residents with unwanted weapons in the home, or with weapons previously owned by someone who is deceased or has left the home, can turn them into the police department.

$60 cash will be paid on the spot for each weapon turned in. Ammunition may be turned in as well; however, there will be no payment to people turning in ammunition only, the department said.

Weapons should be unloaded and placed in a bag or other container and transported in the trunk or rear area of your vehicle. If you are unfamiliar with weapons, do not try to unload it or tamper with it in any way, the department said.

Persons wishing to participate in the program, but who do not have a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card will be given amnesty during transport, provided that they travel in a direct route from their home to the drop-off point, according to the Village website.

If you want to turn in a weapon but have no transportation, or you prefer a police officer transport your weapon, contact the Police Department and assistance will be provided on a case-by-case basis.
