Crest Hill Woman Dies After Hitting Squad Car On I-55

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Will County Coroner's Office announced that a 33-year-old Crest Hill woman was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m. after her car struck an Illinois State Police Trooper's squad car. The woman who died has been identified as Danielle M. Nino, and she sustained multiple injuries, the coroner's office said.

A Chicago television station reported that the police officer suffered minor injuries.

The coroner's office said the crash occurred as the woman was driving southbound along I-55 near the exit for Weber Road in DuPage Township.

A press release from the Illinois State Police contained the following relevant information:

"According to preliminary investigations, the Fiat was traveling through the construction zone on I-55 southbound just north of Weber Road in the right lane. For unknown reasons, the Fiat lost control and over turned across the left two lanes that were shut down. The Fiat rolled onto the left shoulder, into the rear of the stationary ISP squad car while the trooper was still inside.

"The roadway was clearly marked with construction zone signage when this crash occurred. The driver of the Fiat, Danielle Nino, was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Will County Coroner. The ISP trooper was transported to area hospital with non-life threatening injuries."
