Son Punches Infant During Fight with Father: Police

A 22-year-old man was hitting his father, who was holding the infant, according to police.

An infant suffered significant brain injuries after the baby’s father began punching his own father, who was holding the infant, police said.

Kevin Hodge, 22, was traveling with his child when he was involved in what police believe was a hit-and-run accident on Weber Road and Highpoint Drive in Romeoville. Hodge then fled from the scene to his father’s house on the 200 block of Oak Creek, which is in the area where the accident occurred.

Police say Hodge was intoxicated at the time of the accident and told his father that’s why he fled.

An argument broke out and Hodge began punching his father numerous times, despite him holding Hodge’s infant son, according to the release.

While Hodge was hitting his father, he struck his son in the head causing significant brain injury. The infant was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital and then was flown to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

After the fight, Hodge fled and was later found by officers hiding under a vehicle. Hodge was taken into custody and brought to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. He has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence and domestic battery.
