Officer Shot In Shoulder During Investigation, Suspect In Custody
At 5:45 a.m. Thursday, police apprehended Samer Hernandez, 29, the suspect in the shooting.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — A man is in custody after he exchanged gunfire with Romeoville Police officers, resulting in one officer being shot in the shoulder, according to a release from police.
Officers were investigating a stolen vehicle near Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive at 12:13 a.m. Thursday, and when officers approached the vehicle, the suspect fled on foot, police said. A foot pursuit began, in which officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and one officer was shot in the shoulder.
The officer was taken to the hospital; there is no update on his condition yet, police said.

A shelter in place order for residents in the area has been lifted, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Valley View School District said its transportation will run as normal for the area that was affected, and it will also be a regular in-person school day at Hermansen Elementary School, near Taylor and Weber roads.
Plainfield District 202 also said it will have increased police presence in the Romeoville corridor on Thursday, and schools are in session.
