Metal Monkey Brewing Setting Up Shop in Romeoville

The brewery should open sometime in October.

The folks over at Metal Monkey Brewing have been in the beer business for a long time and soon they’ll be opening up their own brewery and tasting center in Romeoville.

Brett Smith and Dan Camp are the co-owners of Metal Monkey Brewing. They said the brewery should open sometime in October and be located on Anderson Drive.

“We’re going to have a small tasting room and brewing everything on-site,” Smith said. “It’s going to be our beer and our beer only.”

However, the brewery won’t also be a restaurant. In lieu of that, Camp and Smith plan on having food trucks. People are also encouraged to bring their own food.

Smith and Camp have been perfecting their beer recipes for several years. One of their more popular brews is Simian Fever, which is a hibiscus wheat beer.

“It’s a nice, lighter beer but it’s got a bit of tartness from the hibiscus flowers that we use in it,” Camp said. “It sells out pretty quickly.”

Another brew they do is called Funky Mucker. It’s a chocolate peanut butter imperial stout.

“A lot of people really love that one,” Camp said. “It’s a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup in a glass, basically.”

There are a number of other beers they do, for which they’ve won awards.

According to Camp, the reaction from tasters has been pretty good, too.

“One of the architects we’re working with wanted to sample some of the beer,” Camp said. “He said he hates dark beer so we gave him some of the stuff we had on hand at the time and one of them was a dark coffee vanilla porter and he said, ‘Oh my god, this is one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Can I have some more?’”

Leading up to the opening of the brewery, Metal Monkey is offering a howler club. Details about the club can be found here.

Right now, Smith and Camp are in the process of getting their applications finalized so they can submit it to the village to get everything approved.

“As soon as that happens, we’re going to be in there 24 hours a day getting everything moving and built in time,” Camp said.
