Natural Gas Leak Closes New Avenue in Lockport Twp.

A natural gas leak has closed New Avenue between 135th Street and Route 171 in Lockport Township.

According to a report from The Herald-News, the CN Rail Line has also been shut down due to gas blowing over the rails. The closure will affect freight, Amtrak and the Heritage Corridor line. A business has been evacuated as a precaution. It is unknown when New Avenue will be open again.

Nicor Gas is at the leak location and currently making repairs.

Phone messages left with the Lockport Township Fire Protection District and Nicor Gas were not immediately returned.
