Nicor Gas Awards $5K Grant To Lewis University STEM Program

The grant will support the university's "Girls Create With Technology" program.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Lewis University will be the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Nicor Gas, the business announced last week.

The grant will support the university's "Girls Create With Technology" program, according to a release. The program, which engages high school girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through a summer camp experience, focuses on creating crafts, animal-themed animatronics, and programming environments that teach girls about animation.

"We know that access to educational and workforce development opportunities is critical to ensure our communities are not only strong, but thriving places to live and work," Jackie Nagel, manager of Community Engagement at Nicor Gas, said in a release. “As the largest natural gas provider in Illinois, we are committed to doing our part to develop a qualified workforce through the support of secondary and post-secondary educational opportunities, as well as technical and vocational programming.”
