• Volunteers sought for oak tree planting at Romeoville nature preserve (shawlocal.com) — Romeoville residents are invited to help plant native oak trees at O'Hara Woods Nature Preserve on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 to 11 a.m., with all supplies provided. Organized by the village's Conservation and Sustainability Committee and The Conservation Foundation, the workday supports long-term restoration funded by CITGO and celebrates National Public Lands Day.
   

• Duckworth, Durbin Announce More Than $66 Million for Illinois Airport Improvements (senate.gov) — Lewis University Airport in Romeoville is set to receive more than $3.2 million as part of a $66 million federal package to upgrade Illinois airports. The funding, announced by Senators Duckworth and Durbin, will support infrastructure improvements like safer taxiways and expanded capacity, potentially boosting local connectivity, jobs, and economic activity tied to Romeoville's regional airport.
   

• Army Corps resumes work at Brandon Road Project as invasive carp encroach on Illinois River (chicagotribune.com) — Romeoville's nearby electrical fish barriers on the Illinois River are highlighted as the last, unreliable defense against invasive carp while the Army Corps resumes construction on the Brandon Road project near Joliet. The long-planned, multi-phase effort will add electric, acoustic, and bubble barriers to protect Great Lakes ecosystems and economies, after a brief federal pause raised concerns among regional environmental and fishing advocates.
