Plainfield Man in Critical Condition After Crash with Semi

The man was described as being in his late forties and has been taken to a local hospital.

A Plainfield man is in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning.

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Fred Rivera said the Plainfield man was driving at around 9:43 a.m. on US 30 and West 127th Street when he collided with a semi truck.

Rivera said the crash was likely a head-on collision, but didn’t know if the SUV swerved into the other lane or what the truck did.

The injured man was described as being in his late forties. He did not have a passenger in his car, nor did the truck driver.

Plainfield Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Jon Stratton said the Plainfield man’s SUV sustained significant damage, as did the semi. The man had to be extricated from his SUV, which took around 18 minutes. Stratton said the semi was traveling eastbound and the SUV was traveling westbound.

Lifestar was brought in to fly the man to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The crash and a subsequent diesel spill shut down the road until around 1:45 p.m.

As of now, no citations have been issued. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved with the crash.
