UPDATE: Gas Main Leak Has Been Fixed, Roads Are Open

Plainfield School District afternoon transportation may still be delayed.

UPDATE: Police say the gas leak has been repaired and roads are now open. The Plainfield School District has said afternoon transportation may still be slightly delayed because of heavy traffic in the area.

A gas main on Renwick Rd. west of Rt. 30 was struck resulting in a leak and road closures, according to the Plainfield Police Department and the Village of Plainfield.

Roads on Rt. 30 between Renwick Rd and Frontage Rd and on Renwick Rd. between Rt. 30 and Rt. 59 have been closed.

Police said they expect it to be some time before the issue is resolved and urge people to avoid the area if possible. According to the city, Nicor Gas is attempting to repair the leak.

Central Elementary kindergarten and Bonnie McBeth Learning Center preschool midday delivery and pickup may be delayed, according to an email from Plainfield School District 202. Residents may access those schools by using Robert Avenue east to Frederick Avenue south to Getson Avenue.
