Retail Building Will Join New Taco Bell On Route 53 In Romeoville

The site plan calls for a building with 6,825 square feet, and is a multi-tenant retail building.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Final development plans for a multi-tenant retail building off of Route 53 were approved at Wednesday's Romeoville Village Board meeting.

Community Development Director Josh Potter said the new retail building property is one acre, and was formerly a gas station and a used car lot.

The property is at 639 N. Independence Blvd., and is right next to the newly-approved Taco Bell.

"The current owner and developer are the owners of Joe's Beverage Warehouse down the street. They demolished the former used car lot building and remediated the site this past summer," Potter said.

Construction should start in April.

Potter said the site plan calls for a building with 6,825 square feet, and is a multi-tenant building. There is also a drive-thru option on one side of the building.

"They could accommodate up to five tenants, but most likely, they'll have fewer tenants than that," Potter said.

Mayor John Noak said it's nice to have the two lots — the multi-use project and the new Taco Bell — developed at the same time and is "really cleaning up that intersection."

He added that tenants will come in the future, so "we don't have anything on that at this point."
