Police will be watching for impaired drivers, seat belt scofflaws.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Romeoville police will conduct roadside safety checks throughout the village on Friday, May 26. Romeoville Police Chief Mark Turvey said the checks are being conducted to promote safety and well-being and to provide a deterrent for motor vehicle safety violators. The checks are targeted at drivers driving a vehicle with defective equipment, without proof of insurance, those under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and those not in compliance with seat belt laws.

The checks will take place "at locations and during those hours which will provide the maximum opportunity for detection and apprehension of motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol or other substances," police said.
