Romeoville Islamic Center Hosts Open House

"In an age of fear, hate, and Islamophobia, it's crucial for neighbors to come together, form alliances and work for a better society."

ROMEOVILLE, IL — A local organization is inviting residents to get to know their Muslim neighbors. Ta-Leem-Ul Haq Foundation will host an open house from noon to 2 p.m. at the Islamic Center of Romeoville, 14455 S. Bulder Road, Plainfield. The event will offer free admission, free food, a tour of the mosque, henna designs, face painting for kids, a "Listen to the Quran" booth, an "Islam 101" presentation and time for Q&A.

Organizers call the event "an invitation to promote harmony and peace in the society," adding, "In an age of fear, hate, and Islamophobia, it's crucial for neighbors to come together, form alliances and work for a better society."

The Aug. 26 event is co-sponsored by GainPeace, "a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the message of Islam, by going out and engaging people on a personal level."

Ta-Leem-Ul Haq Foundation said it purchased the Budler Road property in 2014. Fundraising efforts and construction photos are featured on the foundation's website.

The open house comes just days after the village board in nearby Plainfield voted 3-3, effectively rejecting the Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs' request to relocate from Route 59 to a former church site on Main Street.
