Man Dies Days After Route 53 Crash As Police Seek Information
David Muzzey died several days after a Dec. 7 five-car crash involving drivers from Plainfield, Joliet and Elwood.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — A Romeoville man died Sunday night, three days after a five-car crash shut down Route 53 between Renwick and Taylor roads. David Muzzey, 58, was pronounced dead just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Romeoville police are asking anyone with information on the Dec. 7 crash, which occurred just south of Taylor Road, to come forward. Witnesses are asked to call Officer Wagner at 815-886-7219 and refer to case number 17-4810.
Muzzey was driving north in Route 53 in his Mercury when he rear-ended a Subaru driven by a Chicago man, Romeoville police told Suburban Life. That crash sent Muzzey's vehicle across the left lane into oncoming southbound traffic, where it struck a 34-year-old Joliet man's Mini Cooper head on. That sparked a chain reaction, causing the Mini Cooper to hit a 55-year-old Elwood man's Chevy Silverado, and one of the vehicles also struck a Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 60-year-old Plainfield man, according to police.
