Romeoville MS Girls Basketball Moving on to State Quarterfinals

The Vikings will meet unbeaten Charleston Middle School at 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at Parkside Junior High in Normal.

Martinez Middle School’s 7th grade girls basketball squad is headed to the Illinois Elementary School Association’s Class 4A state basketball quarterfinals after knocking off Kennedy Middle School of Rockford 37-32 Wednesday night in a sectional final contest.

The Vikings (19-7) will meet unbeaten Charleston Middle School (19-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Parkside Junior High in Normal. The winner advances to a state semifinal game at 6:30 that same evening. The state final will be played Dec. 10.

Martinez 1st led 10-3 after a quarter, expanded it to 24-9 at halftime and 34-20 after three periods.

Lindsey Novak led all scorers with 17 points, while Payton Reese added 9. Sam Bunch and Alina Anderson tallied 4 each and Larrisa Ortiz scored 3.

Other Vikings team members are Aaralyn Shannon, Leslie Nemenzo, Sam Cukier, Laynia Trent, Larissa Ortiz, Hannah Samoy, Cristina Sanchez, Kris Valdez, Josey Ocampo, and Reese Massaro.

Their coaches are Tiffany Forth and Paul Andler.
