Attempted Murder Charges Pending After Romeoville Officer Shot In Shoulder

The officer, Dominic Thielmann, has been with the Romeoville department for six years.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Romeoville Police Officer who was shot in the shoulder during the investigation of a stolen car is in stable condition, the Village of Romeoville shared on its Facebook.

The officer, Dominic Thielmann, has been with the Romeoville department for six years. Thielmann is currently assigned to the Investigation’s unit as a Tactical Officer, the Village said.

Thielmann was shot in the shoulder early Thursday, when officers were investigating a stolen vehicle near Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive. When officers approached the vehicle, the suspect, now identified as Samer Hernandez, 29, fled on foot, police said. A foot pursuit began, in which officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and Thielmann was shot.

Hernandez has been charged with armed robbery, stemming from a stolen vehicle incident that happened on May 20 in Romeoville, according to the Village. The bond has been set at $5 million, and 10 percent does not apply.

Hernandez has been transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Charges for the attempted murder of Thielmann are pending the completion of the investigation by the Will County Major Crimes Task Force, the Village said.
