Romeoville Swears In 2 Police Officers

Two new officers took their oaths of office at Wednesday's Village Board meeting.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — At Wednesday's Romeoville Village Board meeting, two new police officers were sworn in to the department.

Officers Luis Lara and Peter Sprecher both took their oaths of office.

Police Chief Brant Hromadka said Lara is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served from 2012 to 2017, where he reached the rank of sergeant.

After his service, Lara earned a Bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University. He has worked as an officer at the Chicago Police Department and Palos Hills Police Department, before coming to Romeoville.

"He brings with him six years of police experience, and it already shows in the smooth transition he's made to our community," Hromadka said.

Sprecher grew up in Canton, Illinois, and earned a Bachelor's degree in exercise science and physiology from Monmouth College.

Hromadka said Sprecher is a national champion in the pole vault track and field event. Sprecher pursued pole-vaulting in a professional capacity, before working in law enforcement.

He worked for 10 years at Palos Hills Police Department, and served in various roles at that department.

"I know Officer Sprecher will have a successful career here in Romeoville. I look forward to seeing what he can do here, I know he's already had a successful career in Palos," Hromadka said.
