Romeoville Teen Named MVP for Baseball Showcase Game

The Romeoville Spartan also had three home runs and met Babe Ruth's granddaughter.

MIAMI, FL — Romeoville High School student Julio Cajigas was named Most Valuable Player for one of the games he played during the 10th Annual Power Showcase in Miami, Florida.

In addition, the teen hit three home runs in the Home Run Derby, including two that left the ball park, according to a press release. He also had two singles, one triple, a stolen base, run scores and three RBIs.

For his performance, he received a wooden bat with his name on it for the MVP award.

Cajigas, along with other players there, received a personalized uniform from none other than Linda Ruth Tosetti, granddaughter of legendary baseball player Babe Ruth.

Cajigas, a catcher, third baseman and center fielder, represented Illinois during the Homerun Derby and All American game, which featured some of the most prolific high school amateur prospects around the country.

Cajigas is a member of the Romeoville High School Spartans, coached by David Haskins, and Fastball USA, coached by Mike Ryan.

The 10th Annual Power Showcase was held from Dec. 28 to Jan. 2 at the Marlins Ball Park in Miami. The Showcase featured 170 of the world’s best players representing more than 20 countries.
