Police Suspect 'Swatting' in Plainfield Barricade Incident

An unidentified person reportedly called police to say he was armed and had a hostage.

The Plainfield Police Department said a possible “swatting” incident may have been the cause of heavy police presence in the 24100 block of Nottingham Ave. in the Kensington Club subdivision Sunday night.

Swatting is when a fake call is made to police in order to draw out a SWAT team to a particular home.

At around 6:45 p.m. an unidentified person called police saying he was armed, barricaded and had a hostage, according to Sgt. Mike Fisher.

Despite multiple attempts to make contact with anyone inside the home, police received no response. The Naperville SWAT team then went inside, but found the house empty.

The incident displaced several residents in the area and the roadway was shut down for around 3 hours. The home is currently being examined by the Plainfield Police Department.

The possibly prank crisis drew police agencies from Joliet, Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Shorewood, Naperville and the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
