Teen Caught With Gun Flees Traffic Stop: Romeoville PD

The 18-year-old is also facing drug charges.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — A teen with a Plainfield mailing address was arrested early Tuesday after a traffic stop in Romeoville. Cmdr. John Ferdinardo said an officer stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at around 1:37 a.m. near Weber and Airport roads. Upon approaching the car, the officer noticed the smell of cannabis, according to police.

A search of the vehicle also turned up a handgun and ammunition, and a passenger in the car was in possession of both cannabis and pills, according to police.

The passenger, Taeveonn D. Banks, of the 7000 block of Bradley Drive, also briefly attempted to flee from police but was apprehended after a short food chase, according to Ferdinardo.

Banks was booked into the Will County jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, illegal possession of ammunition without a FOID card, possession of cannabis and possession of a controlled substance, according to jail records.

Police said the driver, a juvenile, was cited for curfew violation.

Banks is due in Will County court on Wednesday.
