Teen Read Week begins at the White Oak Library

White Oak Library District celebrates Teen Read Week be winning a grant.

The White Oak Library District has received a $1,000 grant to help build a circulating game collection intended for library users who are learning English as a second language.

White Oak teen librarian Cindy Shutts states, “We plan to have a special game night kick-off program at all three of the branches called ‘Do you Speak Game?’ The purpose of game night is to introduce our patrons to the game collection and use it as an opportunity to teach patrons how to play the games.”

This collection includes games such as Scrabble, Bananagrams, Upwords, Scrabble Slam, Scattergories, Catch Phrase, Taboo, Balderdash, Jenga, and Apples to Apples. Shutts hopes that “launching this collection during Teen Read Week™ will ensure a larger percentage of people are impacted by these materials and that they will have a higher circulation.”
