The Will County Sheriff’s Office recently ramped up its enforcement efforts with the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. While some may not have gotten the message that police would be vigorously patrolling, a ticket or a night in jail may have changed that.

According to a release from the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the campaign ended up giving 156 citations , as well as making two felony and four DUI arrests. 365 vehicles also were checked for seatbelt compliance.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that the campaign was worthwhile and stressed the importance of removing the four drunk drivers from our local roads.

“The way we see it, if we saved one life during this campaign by getting a drunk driver off the roads, the campaign was successful,” Sheriff’s Traffic Enforcement Sergeant Vince Gambino said.

This high-visibility campaign aimed to increase awareness about the dangers of drunk driving through a strict no-nonsense enforcement. Television, radio and social media played its part in spreading the message to all who traveled our roads during the campaign. This law enforcement crackdown was coordinated by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) as part of the statewide Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.
