Woman Killed By Carjacker Was Attending Romeoville Convention

A 59-year-old woman was shot in the head by a carjacker Sunday.

CHICAGO, IL — A woman who was shot to death by a carjacker Sunday in Chicago was on her way to Romeoville for a Jehovah's Witnesses convention, according to reports. Police said the 59-year-old was getting into a car with a 70-year-old man and woman at around 7:15 a.m. when a would-be carjacker walked up and pulled a gun on the driver in the 900 block of North Kedvale Avenue in West Humboldt Park.

Police said the suspect attempted to steal the vehicle, but the driver accelerated in an attempt to get away. The carjacker then opened fire, shooting the 59-year-old woman in the back of the head, police said.

She was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead.

The two other people in the vehicle were taken to Mount Sinai for observation. The elderly couple was taking their friend to drive to a Jehovah's Witnesses convention in Romeoville, according to a report by ABC 7.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-4, thin black man in his 20s, wearing a red hoodie.
