Couple Jailed For Pulling Facebook-Sex-Date-Robbery Scam: Cops

A man robbed at gunpoint believed he was going to have sex with a woman he met on Facebook, police said.

A Chicago man expecting to have sex with a woman he met on Facebook was instead robbed at gunpoint in a Joliet motel room, police said.

The 29-year-old man made the acquaintance of 24-year-old homeless woman Ashley Spells on Facebook and arranged to have sex with her, police said. He reportedly showed up to her room at the Budget Inn Express on McDonough Street shortly after midnight Sunday and found her in a state of undress. Spells then invited her new companion to “make himself comfortable” as well, police said.

The man started taking off his clothes, police said, and as he was doing so, Spells sent a text message. Soon after, 23-year-old Dominique McKinley of Joliet reportedly appeared at the door, produced a pistol, and demanded the man’s money. The man surrendered $60, grabbed his clothes and ran out of the room, police said.

The cops tracked down Spells and McKinley and the man identified them as the woman he was supposed to have sex with and the man who took his money, police said. Officers reportedly searched Spells’ motel room but did not turn up a gun.

Spells and McKinley were arrested on robbery charges and taken to the Will County jail.
