Deadbeat Tenant Threatened Landlord With Knife: Cops

The tenant hadn't been paying his rent and was "causing problems" even before the whole thing with the knife, police said.

A deadbeat tenant pulled a knife on his landlord during a confrontation over unpaid rent, police said.

Christopher Vogen, 37, who police say relocated to Crest Hill after leaving the place he was staying on Wood Duck Lane, was jailed Monday on a charge of aggravated assault.

A 46-year-old man called the police on Vogen Jan. 27. The man reportedly told officers Vogen had been staying in his Wood Duck Lane home since July but was failing to pay his rent and was also “causing problems.”

The man confronted Vogen about the rent and told him he was going to kick him out, police said, and Vogen responded by pulling a knife and daring the man to “Go ahead and try it.”

Vogen was gone by the time officers got there, police said, but they obtained a warrant for his arrest and took him into custody at the station Monday afternoon.
