Drew Peterson an Inspiration to Yet Another Indie Band

A couple weeks ago we brought you the band Esta Vivo’s song “Drew Peterson, the Romantic.” This week we’re back with another indie group drawing inspiration from Bolingbrook’s most famous lady-killer.

The Dead Wives of Drew Peterson released a 12-song set, also called “Dead Wives of Drew Peterson,” according to the Times of Northwest Indiana.

Drummer Edd Merkel, bassist David Schoon and “guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter Steve Dale VanderGriend,” along with “vocalist Chris Kamstra recorded a 12-song set of VanderGriend originals titled ‘Dead Wives of Drew Peterson,’ now also the name of the band.”

The group’s “music has echoes of ‘90s-era of Pearl Jammy bands but is not derivative,” the Times said. “Kamstra describes the music as ‘special’ and ‘fluid,’ with songs ‘as dark as they are sincere.’”

But for all that, neither the songs nor the band have anything to do with Drew Peterson.

“VanderGriend noted the sensational Peterson murder trial has no reference in the songs, but it was the top story in the news when work began on the songs,” the story said. ‘Throughout the recording process, an official “band name” was never discussed,’ he said on why they looked to the headlines for a name sure to get attention.”

Peterson, 60, was found guilty of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, and is serving a 38-year prison sentence at Downstate Menard Correctional Center. Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in October 2007 and remains missing.

The Illinois State Police named Drew Peterson a suspect in Stacy’s “potential homicide,” but never actually charged him with harming her.
