Gas City Stations to Close Tonight, Reopen Friday as Speedway
Gas City employees said Gold Card rewards points will not carry over to the Speedway locations.

Gas City gas stations and convenience stores acquired by Speedway at appear set to close at 8 p.m. Thursday and re-open Friday morning under their new name.
Speedway spokesman Shane Pochard said he had no knowledge of the transition, but store employees in Frankfort and New Lenox said they had been told the stores would close Thursday evening, be rebranded as Speedway stations overnight and reopen Friday in their new incarnation.
Speedway’s website already lists all of the former Gas City locations as Speedway locations, but does not indicate gasoline or diesel prices.

Gas City employees said Gas City Gold Card reward points would be good until closing Thursday. They said Gold Card members would be converted to Speedway’s Speedy Rewards program if they turn in their Gold Cards.
Gold Card members would get a bonus of some kind when they convert, store employees said, but Gold Card points would not carry over.

“We are telling customers to use their Gold Card points by Thursday evening,” an employee at the Gas City station at 19730 S. Harlem Ave. in Frankfort said Wednesday afternoon.
An employee with Speedway’s customer service department said they were two different reward programs and Gold Card points would not carry over.
“I suggest they use their Gold Card points as soon as possible,” said Kim, who declined to give her last name.
Last month, the Frankfort-based Gas City as part of the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in order to pay off debts. Speedway, which is owned by Marathon Petroleum Co., is an Ohio-based chain of gas stations and convenience stores with locations throughout the Midwest.
