Devoted Wife, Mother & Grandmother

Janet C. Brown

Of Minooka, peacefully passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the age of 77 years.

She is survived by her three devoted children Julie (Robert) Lechelt, Theodore "Ted" Brown, and Annah Ammon. Janet leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth through her six adoring grandchildren Justin, Rachel, Charley, and Jordan Lechelt, Ella, and Ruby Ammon. Her sister-in-law Georgene “Jo” Snider and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Larry John Brown (2019), as well as her brother John "Jack" Snider, her sister Nancy Snider-Johnson and brother-in-law Howard Johnson.

Born on September 18, 1946, in Joliet to Byron and Laura "Sis" Snider, Janet was a woman of intellect and passion. She earned her bachelor's degree in English and Education from Northern Illinois University and the College of St. Francis. Janet and Larry's journey together took them to various places to live, including Sun City and Gilbert, AZ, Dandridge, TN, and Joliet.

Janet's professional journey was marked by dedication and service. She worked as a teaching assistant in Arizona and at Dollywood in Tennessee. For many years, she taught English at Joliet Junior College. Her commitment extended to the role of Former President of the Joliet Township High School Board of Education.

Outside of her professional life, Janet found joy in artistic expression. She had a passion for designing and creating stained glass windows, leaving behind beautiful pieces that reflect her creativity and spirit.

A memorial visitation to celebrate Janet's life will be held at the Carlson-Holmqiust-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., on Wednesday, November 22nd, from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M., with services beginning at 4:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Lightways Hospice.
