Joliet-Area Walmart Temporarily Closes After Toy Aisle Fire
The "unexpected situation ... requires our full attention," staff at the Route 59 Walmart said.
SHOREWOOD, IL — Walmart on Route 59 on the border of Shorewood and Joliet will remain closed through the weekend as a result of a fire that broke out Thursday in a toy aisle, the business said.
The supercenter, at 1401 Route 59, posted on Facebook Thursday to say the store was closed for the day while staff resolved the situation. Friday morning, the team said the closure would be lengthened.

The Joliet Fire Department was called to the superstore at 1401 Route 59, where they found flames and smoke in a toy aisle, according to a report from WJOL. No injuries were reported.

"We are working quickly to resolve everything and ensure a safe, smooth reopening," staff wrote in the post. "Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to serving you again soon."
