Joliet Man Trashed Mom's Place in Fight Over Phone: Police

The mother locked her son out and he tried to kick in the door, police said.

A Joliet man trashed his mother’s house during a disagreement over a cell phone, police said, and after she locked him out while he was out work, he tried to kick in her door.

Anthony Smith, 23, was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with the alleged unrest at his home on Hunter Avenue.

Smith ransacked the apartment where he lives with his 47-year-old mother during a dispute over a cell phone Monday morning, police said.

Smith’s mother owns the phone, police said, but he claimed to pay the bill and wanted her to hand it over.

Smith went to work Monday afternoon and while he was gone his mother locked him out of the apartment, police said. When he got back shortly after 11 p.m., he allegedly tried to kick in the door.

Police sent to the apartment reportedly found the place in a state of disarray due to Smith’s alleged Monday morning tantrum.

Smith was released on his own recognizance.
