Fifteen Joliet Township High School freshmen have been selected to participate in the Give Something Back Foundation’s (GSBF) Partner School Scholarship program.
The GSBF Partner School Scholarship is open to students from traditional high schools in Will County, and is designed to fund the cost of college for freshman students who are people of high character, have a high level of academic achievement and are eligible for a full Pell Grant. The program includes many college preparatory activities throughout their time in high school. Some activities include etiquette training, networking events and college panels. Also, students are mentored during their years in high school to help keep them on track. Students can choose one of three partner schools in Illinois that will provide free tuition, which include University of St. Francis in Joliet; Lewis University in Romeoville; or Blackburn College in Carlinville, which also provides free room and board.

“What this scholarship means is that these students will not only have a supreme opportunity to go to college, but they will have experiences that will prepare them for life. The program is more than providing an avenue for a college degree, it is about looking at the world a little differently, which for some, can be extraordinarily powerful,” said GSBF Executive Director Steve Cardamone. “From etiquette training to having mentors and meeting interesting guest speakers, GSBF wants each student to achieve to the best of their potential and in turn, give back to society at some point in the future.”
GSBF was founded in 2003 when Lockport Township High School graduate, Bob Carr, wished to give something back to future generations of high school students at LTHS. In 2013, the decision was made to incorporate all of the traditional high schools in Will County. Mr. Carr hopes that recipients of this award will also give back in the future if their financial circumstances permit.
