Obituary: Bobbie Dean Matthews

United States Navy and Will County area APA league member passes away at the age of 81.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Bobbie Dean Matthews

Bobbie Dean Matthews, passed away peacefully at the age of 81, at his home in Shorewood, on Friday, April 12, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Bobbie was born in Paxton, IL on July 6, 1942, the son of Doris Marie Matthews. He grew up in Peoria, IL and attended Woodruff High School. Bobbie was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He worked at both Chicago Northwestern Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad as a car man and retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

Bobbie was a private man who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of shooting pool in the Will County area APA league, for his sense of humor and his kindness.

Bobbie is survived by his children, Johnette (Ron) Terrell , Steven Matthews, Tony (Linda) Matthews, Debbie (Heather) Minnick, Chris (Kim) Matthews, Phillip Matthews, and Mark Matthews; his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Douglas Wayne Linsley. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He is preceded by his mother; and his sister, Sandra Matthews.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Inurnment will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL, where full military honors will be held under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. As it was Bobbie’s request, cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Dementia Society of America.
