Obituary: Domingo Marquez Martinez

A Joliet resident, dedicated to his faith, passes away at age 77.

Domingo Marquez Martinez

Domingo Marquez Martinez, passed away at the age of 77, on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet surrounded by loved ones. Domingo was born on December 15, 1946, the son of the late Anselmo and Olga Marquez. Born and raised in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, he was a Police Officer before moving here to the Chicago area.

Domingo was a man who was dedicated to his faith. He was an active member of Keystone Church in Chicago, where he taught Sunday school, was an Exhorter, and an Associate Pastor. Domingo liked preaching the word of God and he loved studying the scriptures and learning as much as possible. He was an eloquent speaker, a mentor, and encouraged others to follow in God’s path. Domingo loved watching baseball games and he played in recreational leagues in Puerto Rico and in Chicago. He was an avid Cleveland Guardians fan. Domingo enjoyed listening to music and was a great dancer. If you were in church you could see him moving to the rhythm of the music!

Domingo is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Maria (nee Cotto) Marquez; his children, Olga Marquez and Edgar (Stephanie) Marquez; brother, Juan Manuel (Leticia Rodriguez) Marquez; as well as several close friends who are considered family.

He is preceded by his parents; and his brother, Francisco Marquez.

Visitation for Domingo Marquez Martinez will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
