Remarkable and longtime Shorewood area resident passes away at the age of 99.

Age 99, a longtime Shorewood, IL resident passed peacefully in Two Rivers, Wisconsin Sunday evening March 24, 2024.
Eileen was born May 13, 1924, to the late Theresa (nee Sievert) and Eugene Ruettiger in Joliet, IL where she was raised and educated, a graduate with the class of 1942 from St. Francis Academy (JCA) and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1945. In 1957, Eileen received a B.S.N. degree from Northern Illinois University.

Beloved wife of the late Sam Paul; loving mother of Robert H. (Annette) Paul; dearest grandmother of Theresa Talkington, Matthew (Andrea) Paul, Jacob (Erin) Paul and Emily Paul; proud great-grandmother of Liliana, Natalie, and Paisley. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Patsy Ruettiger and three generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Sam of 65 years, Eileen is also preceded in death by her son, William S. Paul; sisters, Elizabeth Joutras Brewer and Sr. Lillian R. Ruettiger, O.S.F; brothers, Leo, Sylvester, Lambert, Bernie, Walter, Daniel and Robert in infancy.
Mrs. Paul was a labor and delivery nurse as well as serving District 86 for many years, treating and caring for students at most all of the public grade schools in the Joliet area.
Eileen was a member of the Joliet Women's Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of both VFW Cantigny Post #367, the BPOE, Joliet lodge #296, LOTM Chapter #84 and St. Joseph's College Nurses Alumni.
Other interests included supporting her husband Sam in his endeavors as Clerk of the Circuit Court and serving their community of Shorewood. Additionally, the patient hobby of painting China, but most of all, spending time traveling with her husband and friends in her golden years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Paul will be Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Church of St. Jude 2212 McDonough St., Joliet where all friends and relatives can gather from 9:00 a.m. until her Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
