Obituary: Lester R. Williams

Proud grandfather and former Supervisor at Caterpillar passes away at age 87.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lester R. Williams

Lester R. Williams, age 87, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 5, 1936 in Olive Branch, IL, the son of the late Virgil and Muriel (nee Smiley) Williams.

Lester retired as a Supervisor from Caterpillar after 33 years of dedicated service. He loved sports including golf, bowling, Nascar, and baseball. He was an avid fan of his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He was an even bigger fan of his grandchildren and attended many of their sporting events. Lester was also a proud member of the Joliet Moose Lodge.

Lester is survived by his loving wife Geraldine “Gerry” (nee Briggs) Williams; his children Colleen (Kirk) Zawrazky and Paul (Karyn) Williams; grandchildren, Brandy, Patrick, Renae, Brendon, Brianna, Robert, Paul Jr., Karly, Kaitlyn, and Deena; great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Christina, Angelina, Alaina, Catherine, Jayson, Lilly, and Levi.

He was preceded in death his siblings; Herman Thomas Williams, his twin sister, Hester McCrite, Harvey Dale Williams, and Donna Lucille Baird.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lightways Hopsice.

Visitation for Lester Williams will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) in Joliet, IL, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 6:00 p.m. As it was Lester’s final wish, cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
