Obituary: Margaret M. "Peg" Thomas

Never one to be idle for too long, Peg will be truly missed by family and friends.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Margaret M. "Peg" Thomas

Age 78, of Shorewood, IL and formerly Hickory Hills and Chicago, IL, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024.

She was born on July 11, 1945 to the late Margaret (Rahtert) and Frank McNeill in Chicago where she was raised and educated.

Peg married Robert L. Thomas on October 3, 1970 at St. Patricia's in Hickory Hills.

In addition to Bob, her husband of 53 years, she is also survived by her sons, Richard and Ronald; granddaughter, Kaitlin and several nieces and nephews.

Peg is preceded in death by her son, Robert Jr., her parents and siblings, Frank McNeill and Patricia (Dave) Phelps.

Peg, while raising her family, was very active in Boy Scouts, a Den Mother and former District Commissioner. She then became a real estate agent working at Zubricki Century 21 Realty for many years. Lately, she has served as Secretary for the Shorewood Glen Veterans Group.

Peg enjoyed traveling, line dancing, dining out and getting together with friends for bingo and card games.

All friends and relatives are invited to gather at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 N. Brookforest Ave (Rt. 59) in Shorewood on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. where her Memorial Mass will be celebrated. A reception in her honor will take place immediately after Mass.

As it was Peg's wish, cremation rites have been accorded and her final earthly remains will be interred later at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to the Chicago Police Memorial Fund or the Purple Heart Veterans.
