Photos: Hammel Woods Dam Removal Underway
The project, approved by the Forest Preserve in spring 2019, will improve the health of the DuPage River and make it safer for boaters.

SHOREWOOD, IL — If you've been to Hammel Woods during the past month, you've probably noticed that a section of trail is temporarily off-limits to visitors along the Du Page River. People can't do any boating or tubing near the dam. The parking lot near the river is closed.
On Friday, Joliet Patch's editor captured several photos of the Will County Forest Preserve District's progress on the long-awaited permanent removal of the Hammel Woods Dam.
The dam removal is expected to be finished in October, and the work appears to be on schedule.
