Shorewood Arrest Made In 2017 Heroin Homicide

JOLIET, IL - In what may be the first heroin homicide charge in Will County this year, authorities arrested 41-year-old Saul Nunez of Shorewood in connection with the June 23, 2017 heroin overdose death of 25-year-old Christopher Shanine.

Both the Joliet Patch and Shorewood Patch wrote a number of articles about Shanine's death two years ago.

In any event, Nunez was arrested on Saturday by the Shorewood Police Department, jail records show. He has been charged with drug-induced homicide, a drug narcotics charge and he is also incarcerated on a temporary hold for the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Back on June 23, 2017, shortly before 5 a.m., Shanine's body was found near his bicycle along a Shorewood subdivision parkway in the 800 block of Diamond Head Drive West. Nunez, jail records show, lives in the 800 block of Diamond Head Drive.

People who knew Christopher Shanine have told Patch that his body was found about a mile from where he lived on Benjamin Drive.

Will County Jail records indicate that Nunez was booked into the county detention facility on Saturday afternoon, July 20, and his bail was set at $2,500,000. That means Nunez needs to come up with $250,000 to post as bond.
